Dental Implants Houston

A smiling family with custom dentures at Alexandra Garcia, DDS, MS in Houston.Dentures are an ideal solution for replacing missing teeth. However, they do more than just replace your teeth, they help to restore your oral function and your appearance. Therefore, the quality of the dentures goes a long way in improving your experience once you get these prosthetic devices. It is for this reason, we offer custom-fit dentures here at Alexandra Garcia, DDS, MS. Unlike standard dentures, custom-fit dentures are specifically designed for your mouth, which helps to improve your experience.

How Are Custom Fit Dentures Different from Standard Dentures?

Standard dentures are the traditional dentures option that has been around for several decades. They feature a denture base and a set of artificial teeth. Standard dentures are, however, a one-size fits all dentures. However, since the oral features of each person are distinct from those of another, these types of dentures can pose several problems – from stability issues to a generic appearance that is anything but natural.

Custom-fit dentures are a modern solution, which helps to solve many of the problems of the standard dentures. They are fabricated in the lab based on the custom design of your dental impression – the teeth, the gums, and the dental ridge. With custom-fit dentures, you even have a choice of the material when it comes to the prosthetic teeth and the denture base. For example, you can opt for an acrylic base (which looks just like your gums) and porcelain or ceramic teeth designed in the shape, size, and color of your natural teeth.

How Are Custom Fit Dentures Made?

Custom fit dentures are manufactured based on your oral cavity features. The traditional way of making custom-fit dentures involves taking an impression of your natural teeth (before they are extracted) and then using this impression to fabricate a customized set of dentures in the lab.

However, with technological advancement, it is possible to use computer software to fabricate custom dentures. The computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology is used in this case first to create a design of your dentures, based on your dental features. The dentures are then manufactured using this custom design. The whole computer-aided fabrication process is extremely fast, only taking minutes, as opposed to several weeks for the lab fabricated custom dentures.

Benefits of Custom Fit Dentures

Custom-fit dentures can offer you several benefits when compared to the standard one-size-fits-all dentures.
•  A more stable and comfortable fit –
•  since one size does not fit all when it comes to the dental structure, wearing standard dentures usually proves to be problematic. Without a custom fit, the dentures can lead to stability problems. They can also cause you discomfort, especially when they start moving around the mouth due to the loose fit. Custom fit dentures are, however, designed for your mouth and thus fit snugly and securely. This eliminates the stability issues and thus helps to improve comfort while wearing the dentures.
•  A more natural-looking appearance –
•  custom-fit dentures are designed based on your dental structure, which helps to give them a more attractive, natural-looking appearance. This helps to improve the quality of your smile.
•  Easier use of the dentures –
•  the loose fit caused by standard dentures makes using them a huge challenge. For example when eating, talking, or even laughing. However, with the increased stability, using custom-fit dentures is very easy.

With the custom-fit denture solutions from Alexandra Garcia, DDS, MS, you can have an easier and more enjoyable time after getting your dentures. Call us today at (346) 250-2930 to schedule an appointment.
