Do you suffer from tooth loss? Do you have several teeth that are missing? Are your remaining teeth loose or damaged? There are many different reasons why people lose teeth. Often it is because of gum disease, but there are plenty of other reasons as well. Even genetics can play a part in tooth loss. Here at Alexandra Garcia, DDS, MS we try to save a tooth whenever possible, but sometimes another solution is a better one. One such solution to your tooth loss could be complete dentures.
What You Need to Know About Complete Dentures
With complete dentures, we will give you a mouth that is full of teeth once again. Complete dentures can give you back many things that you lost and thought were gone forever when you started to lose your teeth.
Before we fit you for your complete dentures, we will extract any teeth that you might still have. We are going to replace all of your teeth with the complete dentures; you will not need any natural teeth any longer.
When it is time to start prepping you for the dentures, we will take a mold of your gums. We will need to track every single ridge or dip in your gumline. That is because we will want to make sure that your new dentures will fit your gums and your mouth perfectly.
In many cases, we will work with you so that you can pick what your new teeth will look like. There are choices to be made, such as the color of the new teeth and the shape. The color of the artificial gums will need to be decided upon as well.
You will receive temporary dentures while your new complete dentures are being made in our lab. These will allow you to eat and to talk, but they will not fit like your new dentures will fit.
When your new dentures are ready, you will come back in, and we will make sure that they fit properly. You can also ask any questions that you might have.
Your new dentures should be just like your teeth used to be. You should be able to eat almost anything, although you might want to be careful while you are still getting used to them.
Maintain Your New Dentures
Just because you have no natural teeth any longer, does not mean that you no longer need to brush. You need to brush your gums still and your tongue to keep your mouth healthy. Another thing to remember is that your dentures need to remain wet at all times. That means that if you are not wearing them, they need to be soaking.
You do not need to live with missing teeth. Complete dentures could give you something to smile about once again. Here at Alexandra Garcia, DDS, MS, we want to help you to get started. We know that you will have questions, so call (346) 250-2930 and make an appointment. You can come in and talk to us, and then you will be able to see that complete dentures could be the solution that you are looking for.
