Immediate or Same-Day Dentures
While you may be able to find inexpensive, “one size fits all” dentures, we do not recommend using these as they are not custom-fitted to your mouth. These dentures will slip around in your mouth and make it difficult to eat or speak, plus they can cause uncomfortable sores on your gums. We might fit you with same-day dentures after you have teeth extracted, but these should only be worn as a temporary set while you wait for your custom-made, conventional dentures to be ready. Same-day dentures allow you to leave our office with a set of teeth, and they can help you get used to eating and speaking with dentures while you wait for your custom set. However, if you keep wearing immediate rather than custom dentures, they will most likely need to be relined and replaced several times.
Custom Dentures
Custom dentures are the preferred option because they are designed to fit the unique shape of your mouth and gums. Custom dentures will not move around as much as temporary dentures, meaning they are more comfortable and allow you to speak and eat with ease once you get used to them. Most denture wearers have conventional, removable dentures. Conventional dentures can either be partial (if you are only missing part of an arch of teeth) or complete (if you are missing an entire arch or both arches of teeth), and they must be removed at night for cleaning. Implant-supported dentures are a permanent option that offers even more stability, and can help prevent the jawbone deterioration and facial collapse that denture wearers often experience.
