You may find that even though your dentures are custom fitted to fit snugly into your mouth, you may feel more secure with a denture adhesive. Adhesives come in contact with your saliva and this causes the adhesive to adhere to the dentures and your gums. This ensures that they will stay firmly in place. Choosing the Right AdhesiveIn the first few weeks of wearing new dentures, you may find that not only can it take time to get accustomed to wearing them, but you may worry about them slipping out of place. A denture adhesive can give you a little more stability and reassurance that they will stay firmly in place. There are different kinds of dental adhesives such as creams, powders or liquids, strips, pads and even liners. In our office, we can check your dentures to make sure that they are still fitted correctly to your gums, and then we can help you decide which adhesive will best suit your needs. We find that many patients prefer a cream adhesive for their dentures because it has a smoother texture compared to a powder adhesive. It is important to continue to clean your dentures when you use an adhesive. Brushing the adhesive off nightly should be part of your oral health regimen. Remember that we specially configure your dentures to fit your mouth and if they are loose or uncomfortable, we would like to see you as soon as possible to check to see if they need to be realigned or adjusted to your gums. If you are noticing an unusual slipping of your dentures, an adhesive can correct the problem, however, if they still feel loose, please call our office right away for a checkup. We look forward to seeing you and assisting you in any possible. |
